Beyoncé and André 3000 go “Back to Black” on their Amy Winehouse cover for the upcoming Great Gatsby soundtrack, but Amy’s father, Mitch Winehouse, wants them to go back to the drawing board.
The cover is an almost unrecognizable reworking of the late songstress’ 2007 single, with an experimental, chopped-and-screwed backbeat against the duo’s vocals. Hear it for yourself below.
The first full clip of the song hit the web over the weekend to mixed reviews from fans, but none as outspoken as Mitch himself. He was quick to express his disappointment in the stripped-down track, which debuted on producer Mark Ronson‘s East Village Radio show Friday (April 26). Winehouse took to Twitter Saturday (April 27), to share his thoughts, specifically criticizing the OutKast rapper’s intro.
I just heard the Andre part of Back to Black. Terrible. He should have let Beyonce do it all. Mitch
